AN ELDERLY man died at a care home after weeks of poor health.
Peter Fuchs, 72, was taken to Southampton General Hospital on April 24 after being found unconscious.
He was diagnosed with a chest infection and prescribed antibiotics.
During his stay in hospital he showed signs of improvement but had developed acute confusion.
Mr Fuchs was discharged to his home address, Hawthorns Care Home in Woolston, where staff reported a natural decline in health.
It was decided to put the pensioner on palliative care and he died on June 14.
In a report by Dr Mark Casey, the preliminary cause of death is given as malnutrition with delirium contributing.
Area coroner Jason Pegg adjourned the full inquest to January 25, to be heard in Winchester.
