FLEXING their muscles in 1983 were Andrew Burgess, right, and Paul Woods who got to grips with each other for charity.

The occasion was the final of Romsey’s first arm-wrestling championship and Andrew emerged the victor after an epic dual lasting more than ten minutes.

While the pair slugged it out inside the King’s Head, Ben Read, one of the organisers, also entertained the regulars by bending six-inch nails and tying them in knots.
