BOMB disposal units have rushed to a Hampshire beach.

A bomb has exploded off Meon Shore sending jets of water high into the air.

Royal Navy bomb disposal experts and members of Hillhead Coastguard rushed to the scene after a walker stumbled upon the unexploded piece of ordnance at around 7.30am today.

Believed to be an old World War II shell a stretch of beach was taped off so it could be detonated.

It "safely" exploded at 9.40am and the beach has since been reopened.

Police were notified of the incident but did not attend.
