MOTORISTS are being warned of lane closures on a Hampshire motorway.
The M27 will be temporarily reduced to two lanes between J5 near Eastleigh and J7 near Hedge End.
Closures in both directions will be in place from today (Monday) until May 25 between 9pm and 6am each day.
Work is underway to turn the hard shoulder into a permanent running lane.
This is to create a four-lane, smart motorway.
The closures are so road workers can "fully comply with COVID-19 restrictions and work safely both day and night."
A spokesperson for Highways England said: "We’re continuing to undertake works to convert the M27 to a smart motorway.
"During this time, we will carry on with our activity within the central reserve between junctions 8 and 11, ahead of a future switch to the verges at these locations, once the central reserve is complete.
"A 50mph speed restriction will remain in place along this section of the motorway, until the scheme is fully operational and open to the public. This will enable road users to travel through our roadworks without compromising their safety, or that of our workforce."
