POLICE have launched an investigation after "several food items" were stolen from a food bank in Romsey.

Officers were called to Greatbridge Road yesterday after receiving reports that the Romsey Food Bank and the Freedom Church Offices had been burgled.

It is believed the incident took place during the early hours of Wednesday April 29, after entry was gained when a ground floor door was forced open.

Several items of food were stolen from the premises, and now officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

A Hampshire Police spokesperson said: "We are investigating a report of a burglary at Romsey Food Bank and Freedom Church offices located in the industrial estate on Greatbridge Road.

"We are carrying out a number of enquiries and would ask if anyone saw anything or anyone suspicious in the area between midnight on April 28 and 8am on April 29, to get in contact."

Inspector Chris Taylor has said that despite the burglary, the food bank still has enough food and are not needing to ask for any extra donations.

He said: “The Food bank has never been more important at this challenging time. Thankfully they have enough food, and are not asking for any extra donations. If you, or someone you know, needs support please go to www.romsey.foodbank.org.uk.

"If you have any information on who is responsible, please get in contact.”

Anyone who has any information or witnessed the incident is urged to call police on 101, quoting the reference number of 44200150981.
