People are being urged to support the Hythe ferry when sailings resume.

As reported in the Daily Echo, Blue Funnel Ferries suspended the service on Saturday after passenger numbers dropped by 90% as a result of the lockdown.

Director Lee Rayment said: "The company can no longer support the service.

"We would love to continue but cannot financially maintain the service. Hopefully these unprecedented times will ease in the near future and we can return to some form of normality."

His echo was echoed by Cllr Alex Wade, a member of Hythe and Dibden Parish Council.

He said: "Thank you for supporting our community for as long as possible and we hope when normal service resumes many will be back supporting our ferry."
