THE burial of cremated remains at cemeteries across Fareham has been temporarily suspended due to the coronavirus.

While existing bookings will be honoured, all other burials of cremated remains in Fareham will be suspended with immediate effect.

This measure taken by Fareham Borough Council has been taken to allow for an increase in the number of burials which can take place and the move complies with current cemetery legal regulations and mirrors other local authorities.

Portchester Crematorium has already placed restrictions on funerals and closed its grounds to members of the public.

Executive Member for Streetscene for Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Simon Martin, said: “This is an unfortunate but necessary measure which the Council has had to take at this difficult time.

"We're working hard to keep as many essential services running as possible whilst following Government advice."

Funeral services can only be attended by immediate family provided they are not experiencing any symptoms of Coronavirus or self-isolating and the Crematorium Office can be contacted on 01329 822533.
