THE weather reflected the title of the event; Solent Summer Spectacular was met with sunshine.
Organised by Itchen South Scouts and held at Itchen College, the event raised money towards the Scouts’ ambitious project of building a£40,000 youth campsite in Bursledon.
Their plan was for a purpose built centre on the Cricket Camp site, and the money-raisers had found £9,000 up until that day on June 2, 1979.
The attractions helped swell the fund and included majorette displays, stalls, a custom car exhibition, model aircraft and racing cars and a visit by a clown.
These pictures show some the fun had at the event, and include kids joyously larking on swings and slides, and a majorette troupe in formation.
