BISHOP'S Waltham's most popular annual event has been forced to cancel amongst coronavirus fears.

Local Rotarians had been organising the Carnvial since before Christmas.

It was due to take place on June 13 and would have featured music, dancing and dozens of procession floats passing through the town.

A spokesperson for Bishop's Waltham Rotary Club said: "Rotarians have been organising this event every year for over twenty years: through sun, rain and, like last year, wind as well.

"We recognise that it has become an annual town fixture in the local calendar that local families really look forward to: a real coming together of town’s folk and local village folk.

"So, there is great sadness that we are unable to continue with the event this year.

"It’s a big disappointment, to all who have been involved in organising spectacular arena events and stalls; not to mention Batala the drum band. But also, it’s sad for local traders and charities who look forward to displaying their wares.

"Let’s also look forward to next year. On the June 12 2021, there will be the most fantastic of Carnival celebrations: no rain, no wind, just a glorious celebration of local talent and activities."

The club's Tour of Legends event has also been cancelled.
