THEY were out to prove that the male-dominated sport no longer needed to be.
With the backing of Southampton City Council, Sue Harris and Jan Scott set up one of the first all-girl coaching clinics in the country.
The pair were astounded when on March 24, 1990, 200 soccer-mad girls turned up at Southampton Sports Centre’s for the first session.
Sue and Jan had both played at the highest level of women’s soccer.
