TWO men wearing balaclavas and armed with long pieces of wood have robbed a Southampton supermarket.

Brandishing bits of wood they threatened staff at the Co-op branch in Tickleford Drive.

Jumping over the shop counter they snatched tobacco and cigarettes which they stuffed into their rucksacks before fleeing the scene

Police have now launched a witness appeal following the incident which took place between 8.40pm and 8.55pm on Monday, March 2.

One of the men has been described as white, aged between 17 and 20-years-old, around 5 feet 10 inches tall and of skinny build. He was wearing a grey cotton North Face hooded jumper with the hood up, dark face covering, grey joggers, black gloves and black and white trainers. His jumper had a large white emblem on the front and he was carrying a small backpack with ‘JUST DO IT’, written on the top, in white.

Meanwhile, the second man is described as white, aged between 17 and 20-years-old , around 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall and of skinny build. He was wearing a dark blue Nike hooded jacket with the hood up, a dark green face covering, dark blue jogging bottoms, gloves and black Nike trainers. The jacket had a small white emblem on the top right. He was also carrying a small backpack with ‘JUST DO IT’, written on the top.

Officers have released CCTV images of two men they want to speak to concerning the incident.
