POPULAR Winchester artist Josephine Chisholm has been inspired by a visit to South America for her latest exhibition of paintings at The Minster Gallery in the city.

Discovering El Cono Sur: Travels from the Valle de la Luna to the Casa Rosada will be Josephine’s third show at the gallery in Great Minster Street, Winchester. The bright colours and lively composition familiar from her hugely popular paintings of her home city are used to conjure up the warmth and beauty of Chile and Argentina.

The paintings in this exhibition evoke the energy of Buenos Aires, the elegance of Santiago, the beautiful vineyards of El Cono Sur and the region’s mountains and desert.

The artist said: “My subjects are the kaleidoscope of life.”

As always in her paintings, Josephine expresses what she calls ‘my joie de vivre, my optimism and enthusiasm.’

Josephine Chisholm graduated from the Bristol College of Art and Design as a graphic designer and went on to complete a number of painting courses including one in Winchester where she now lives.

Discovering El Cono Sur: Travels from the Valle de la Luna to the Casa Rosada opens with a private view on March 6, which includes Chilean wine tasting, and continues until March 28.

The gallery shows figurative and abstract paintings and sculpture by contemporary British and international artists.
