THE POINT in Eastleigh is set to run two new initiatives with the aim of supporting people with mental health.

Run by the Eastleigh Borough Council, the venue is set to host two 12-week courses, in street dance and sewing, with sessions designed to build confidence in people who are struggling with their mental health.

Classes will encourage and inspire participants to focus on their creativity and build their confidence.

Cabinet Member for Health, Tonia Craig said: “The Point is a fantastic venue for the arts but it also helps to provide a link to health and wellbeing in the local community with classes like these.

"These courses are a great way to help people’s mental wellbeing by combatting loneliness and boosting their confidence.”

The "One Stitch at a Time" class is a therapeutic course in creative stitching on Tuesday evenings, starting on March 10.

While every Friday evening, beginning on March 13, there will be street dance classes designed to energise and motivate people.

According to the council, many people find that physical activity helps them to maintain positive mental health and being active can help a person feel better about themselves and reduce the risk of depression.

Each session costs £5 per person, and to participate, you need to be registered with an Eastleigh surgery.

To book a place on either course, call The Point box office on 02380 652333 or email thepoint@eastleigh.gov.uk.
