A SOUTHAMPTON woman caught speeding through the M27 temporary speed limit zone has been spared a driving ban, because it would have an impact of her ill wife.

Lisa Chappell, 49, was caught speeding at 61mph through the temporary 50mph zone on the M27 near Eastleigh on June 28.

Appearing at Southampton Magistrates' Court, Chappell, of Warburton Road, Southampton, pleaded guilty to one count of speeding through the single justice procedure.

But Chappell was spared a driving ban, through the totting up procedure, because of the impact on her sick wife.

The court heard that Chappell's wife was reliant on the defendant financially and to take her to regular doctor's appointments.

Instead, Chappell's driving licence was endorsed with three points, she was fined £115, ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
