A ROAD linking two villages in the New Forest was closed after power cables came down between Bartley and Netley Marsh.

The incident, at the junction of Ringwood Road and Eadens Lane, is thought to have been caused by the recent bad weather.

People posting on social media warned that the road had been closed.

One person said: "About 20 minutes ago there was an electricity cable down across the road, Ringwood Road by Eadens Lane. When I left the police were shutting the road, I would assume will be closed for a while."

Another social media user added: "It is shut but not until you get right up to it. It would be easier to close the road further down. Just avoid it. The back roads were busy too."

A Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks spokesperson confirmed that engineers were called to fallen power cables.

She said supplies were not affected but the road was closed to ensure the safety of engineers and road users.

The road has now reopened.

The spokesperson added: “In the wake of Storm Ciara and with Storm Dennis on the horizon, we’d urge members of the public not to approach any damage to our equipment and instead, report it either by calling 105 or via our Power Track App and our teams will investigate as soon as possible.”
