FLOOD alerts are in place around Salisbury as rain continues to batter the city.

Locals and businesses along the River Bourne, between Aughton and Laverstock, have been warned that "flooding is possible".

The government's Flood Information Service advises that "river levels remain high as a result of previous rainfall events and rising groundwater levels. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible."

Alerts have also been put in place to inform locals of groundwater flooding in the Cranbourne Chase and Salisbury Plain areas.

The service has also noted that these are flood alerts, and not flood warnings, whereby residents need to "be prepared" as flooding "is possible", but not "expected", which would require immediate action.
