ALAN Rowe breezed into first first place in Stubbington Green 10k a full ten seconds ahead of the competition – it was the battle for second place that was particularly interesting.
Having trailed Vince Stamp for the majority of the course. Thorsten Warneke summoned up a dramatic late burst to pip the veteran by one second with a best time of 82.19.
The event, which incorporated the Hampshire Road Race League and the Hampshire Police Championships and was sponsored by South Coast Installations and Ward International Consulting, attracted 1,063 entries including two wheelchair athletes.
Caroline Weatherill took the women’s crown.
