THE top performing schools across Hampshire have been revealed in government league tables.

Data from the Department for Education revealed the percentage of children meeting the expected standard across all three tests in reading, writing and mathematics.

The tables are based on how 11-year-olds in each school performed in SATs tests this summer.

Across England an average of 65 per cent of pupils reached the standard.

Data available for schools in the Hampshire County Council area showed that four schools including Amport Church of England Primary School in Andover, Selborne Church of England Primary School in Alton, Sparsholt Church of England Primary School in Winchester and West Meon Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School in Petersfield had 100% of pupils meeting the expected standards.

Meanwhile topping the list of the schools in the Southampton City Council area are Portswood Primary School with 93%, Highfield Church of England Primary School with 91%, Sinclair Primary and Nursery School with 89% and Springhill Catholic Primary School with 87%.

Cllr Darren Paffey, cabinet member for aspiration, children and lifelong learning at the city council, said: “I’d like to congratulate pupils and teachers for their hard work in preparing for their SATs tests. It’s important to remember that SATs results are only one indicator of attainment and don’t give the full picture in terms of pupils’ achievements or the quality of teaching. However, we’re pleased that 64 per cent of pupils in Southampton achieved the expected standard in reading, writing and maths, which is above the average percentage achieving the same standard in other Core Cities. I’m sure that our teachers will continue to work tirelessly to build on these results next year and further ahead.”

Bitterne Manor Primary School , Mansbridge Primary School and Holy Family Catholic Primary School in Southampton all had 83% of pupils meeting the expected standard.

Lymington Junior School in Lymington and St Faith’s Church of England Primary School in Winchester also had a 93% and 91% respectively ranking among the top performing in Hampshire.
