A SOUTHAMPTON man caught illegally fishing in the River Itchen has been fined.
Jason Apps fished without a licence from the river while near to the White Swan Pub in Swaythling on May 25.
He was also fishing in the close season at the time and failed to state his name when asked by an officer of the Environment Agency.
Appearing at Southampton Magistrates' Court, the 20-year-old pleaded guilty to one count of fishing without a licence, one count of fishing in the close season, one count of failing to give his information to an Environment Agency officer and one count of obstructing an officer.
Apps, of Burgess Road, Southampton, was fined £170, ordered to pay court costs of £100 and a victim surcharge of £30.
