A FORMER Totton councillor has joined the battle to prevent a 24-hour fast food outlet being built in the town.

George Dart has lodged an objection to create a Burger King drive-thru at a garage beside the junction of Ringwood Road and Maynard Road.

Mr Dart, of Ringwood Road, used to chair the town council's planning committee.

His letter of objection says the proposed development would increase the amount of traffic using the junction, which already sees 26,000 vehicle movements a day.

He cites the potential impact on air quality in the area and on the health and safety of children going to and from nearby schools.

Mr Dart also says government policy aims to restrict the number of fast flood outlets near schools.
