RETROSPECTIVE permission has been given to a car washing facility on a busy Winchester road.

Winchester City Council planning committee have allowed Unit Three in Easton Lane to continue as a hand car wash, despite receiving 12 objections.

These included concerns about parking and traffic.

Amerjit Kalirai wrote: "There is not enough space on this site to run a car wash. Traffic queuing will cause major problems and obstruction to allow customers to use other businesses on this site.

"Already have three plus more car washes in Winchester. Drainage and water pollution a hazard especially where wheel acids are used."

However, the application received more support than opposition with 21 people writing in favour.

One supporter, Lorna Noakes said: "Really nice to be able to get my car washed knowing it is in safe hands whilst I do shopping.

"Very well placed the chaps are very polite and nothing is to much trouble. Thank you very much. I will be back."

The unit had been vacant before the car wash moved in.
