A WINCHESTER-based architecture company is hoping to make a potentially dangerous bridge in the city safer to cross.
Design Engine Architects have come up with a plan for the narrow path across the Itchen River in Bridge Street. Traffic passes inches away from pedestrians, and the wing mirrors of large vehicles often encroach the walking space.
The firm have completed plans for a new bridge that would run alongside and are now looking for support from the city council.
Director Richard Jobson said: "This new bridge is very necessary for a dangerous area of the city. The path is very small and it is so difficult for people with buggies, electric buggies or anything similar to cross over.
"The new bridge will run alongside and alleviate pressure on the current one. Hopefully it will encourage more walkers in the area, and help people form a better relationship with the Itchen River. It's a beautiful area."
The firm have had initial conversations with the city council and are hoping to "gauge their appetite" to make it happen.
