THREE political parties have announced their prospective parliamentary candidates for Romsey and Southampton North ahead of next month's election.

The three candidates battling it out for constituents votes are Caroline Nokes from the Conservative Party, Claire Ransom on behalf of the Labour Party, Craig Fletcher who will be representing the Liberal Democrats and Geoff Bentley from the UK Independence Party (UKIP).

Ms Nokes, who has been the MP for Romsey and Southampton North since 2010, said: "I am thrilled to be standing to represent the people of Romsey and Southampton North again in this election.

"I’ve been representing local people - the people I grew up alongside - here for over 20 years, the last nine as the Member of Parliament.

"I am grateful for the continued support from my local Conservative Association, particularly from all the activists who are coming out in fairly poor weather to help with our campaign.

"I think it is absolutely crucial to have an experienced voice in Parliament at one of the most challenging time in recent history.”

This comes after Ms Nokes, along with ten other politicians, was told she was allowed to rejoin the parliamentary party following a meeting with Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Campaigner for equality and human rights, Claire Ransom, who has supported workers through her trade union work with UNISON, said: "My passion to get involved in politics and help campaign for the local community has come from working in public services and my trade union activism.

"I am excited to represent Romsey and Southampton North and help realise the policies Labour has developed to rebuild our economy, society and our country."

When asked about Brexit, Claire said: "I stand with the people having a final say on whether we leave or stay in the EU within six months so that they can confirm their views.”

The former Mountbatten School student has also campaigned against austerity cuts, particularly to residential care homes.

Craig Fletcher, who lives with his wife and daughter in West Wellow, said: "I’m standing to represent the people of Romsey and Southampton North because I want to tackle the very real problems they and our country face at this time of uncertainty.

"If elected I will do everything I can to stop a disastrous no-deal that the Tories are determined to push through at any cost, and then focus on building a Britain that works for everyone."

Craig studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and founded Multiplay in 1997.

The business ran for 19 years before being sold to GAME Digital PLC.

Since then, Craig has been an investor and adviser to start up businesses across the UK and Europe.

Mr Bentley, a database specialist turned tree surgeon, said: "I want to provide the people of Romsey and Southampton North with a real choice.

"UKIP is the original, authentic and democratic party for leaving the EU.

"If you voted to leave, you must realise by now that every other party, despite their promises have let you down.
"Know them by their actions.”

Mr Bentley has also stood in past local elections.

The general election will take place on December 12.
