PLANS have been revealed for a permanent travellers’ site in the Hampshire countryside.

An empty plot of farmland in Netley could be transformed to accommodate a “Romany Gypsy Traveller” family who are living in “overcrowded conditions”.

The family of nine are already living in the area with the proposed travellers’ caravan site at Church Farm on Hound Road to be used for a mobile home, a touring caravan and new stable block.

The plot is being used as pasture with the applicants claiming there will be no other caravans on the site.

The plans submitted to Eastleigh Borough Council by Dr Angus Murdoch are on behalf of a Mr Buckland.

Dr Murdoch said: “The proposed site is to accommodate an existing local Romany Gypsy traveller family – two parents with seven children – who are currently living in overcrowded conditions on a site nearby.

“The application has been submitted for a site that complies with the development plan policy for travellers sites.

“The number of caravans will be limited to those on the application form (one mobile home and one touring caravan).”

Dr. Murdoch is reported to be a chartered town planner with over 20 years of experience providing expert advice, consultancy, and representation for Gypsies and Travellers.

Councillor Tonia Craig, the chair of the Bursledon, Hamble-le-Rice, and Hound Local Area Committee has been approached for comment.
