POLICE are on the hunt for a man after an armed robbery took place at a Southampton convenience store.

Approximately £200 was stolen from a till at the One Stop shop in Butts Road, Sholing, when a man dressed in black entered the store with a gun demanding money.

Now Hampshire police are appealing to residents who were in the area at 6.53pm on Sunday, October 27, to help with their investigation.

Armed officers and a dog unit were deployed to the area and conducted a search, however no one was found.

One resident added: "Last night at about half six my dog went frantic at the front door, but we did not go outside because it is not a safe road.

"It is quite normal for this to happen around here and I feel sorry for the staff, because they are lovely people."

Beryl Barnes, a 76-year-old who lives on Butts Road, said: "They are always getting targeted and there was a break in earlier this year around January.

"I presume they went in through the back, which seems to have less security.

"It is a handy shop for people like me who have arthritis and if it keeps getting targeted then it will get shut down."

No one was injured in the armed robbery and the man ran out of the store after stealing the money.

The store had a note in the door today which reads: "We're closed due to an incident. Hope to open this afternoon.

"Sorry for any inconvenience caused."

One Stop have been contacted for comment.

Hampshire police have asked residents to call 101 and quote 44190385591 if they have any information on the crime.
