A MAN has been charged with assault by penetration and attempted rape following an investigation into an alleged serious sexual assault in Winchester.
As previously reported, a woman in her 20s was allegedly the victim of an attack in the area of St George's Street at around 5am on Saturday, October 12.
Jason Chester, 43, of Campbell Way, Fair Oak appeared before Basingstoke Magistrates' Court today (Friday, October 18) after being charged with the two counts.
He did not enter a plea and was sent to Winchester Crown Court, where he is due to appear on Wednesday, November 20.
He was remanded into custody ahead of the hearing.
