THE air ambulance has landed on the M27 last night after a seven-vehicle crash.

The main carriageway was shut as a result of the collision, which happened at junction one for the A31 at Cadnam just before 5pm.

The diversion is via the entry and exit slip roads.

A spokesperson from Hampshire police said: "One man is trapped in his van.

"Fire service have also been asked to attend.

"Everyone else is out of their vehicles and appear to be no other injuries or only minor injuries currently.

"Traffic is being taken off at junction one westbound and then going back on the slip road to re-join the M27 at junction one the other side of the accident.

"This was reported to us at 4.35pm."

One witness who passed the incident said there were so many fire engines and ambulances at the scene that "it looked almost like a child's play set".

"There were at least five ambulances and the air ambulance has landed on the carriageway," she said.

"I can't remember a time when I've seen so many emergency services vehicles at one incident."

There are tailbacks for miles as a result of the incident. However, the road is due to reopen shortly.
