A HAMPSHIRE college was put in lockdown earlier yesterday.

Bosses at The Henry Cort Community College, in Fareham, activated the emergency procedure this afternoon.

It comes after two knives reportedly went missing from one of the college's classrooms.

A message was also reportedly sent to parents of students at the college.

Now college bosses say all students are "safe and well".

In an announcement, made on the college's Facebook page, they said: "All students are safe and well.

"We will be releasing them at the end of the day once systematic bag searches have been completed.

"A further update will follow."

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We were called by a member of staff at Henry Cort Community College this afternoon after two knives had gone missing from a classroom.

"Advice was given and the school had already made proportionate and reasonable steps to deal with the situation.

"No report of a crime was made."
