SOUTHAMPTON students are receiving psychological support after a teenage girl was rushed to hospital following an alleged attack.

Emergency services rushed to Regent’s Park Community College on Friday morning following the incident, in which a girl was allegedly assaulted.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and has since been released on police bail.

Police officers and an educational psychologist will now be on the school campus off King Edward Avenue to answer any questions or concerns raised by pupils.

Additionally, the school will be holding year group assemblies to reassure students of their safety.

The school claims to have followed all safeguarding policies and procedures, adding that it did not lockdown the site as the situation was dealt with immediately and there was no threat to students or staff.

A spokesperson for the school said: “Thank you to all the members of our community who have joined us in offering thoughts and well wishes for the student who was injured at the school on Friday.

“We are currently being guided by the Southampton Police team regarding the level of information we can share to ensure that we do not affect the ongoing investigation

We are very sorry if you or your child has been affected by this and we will, of course, inform you of any updates when we are permitted to do so.”

According to police, the teenage girl was taken to hospital with injuries to her neck, however, they would not say how she was assaulted.

People living near Regents Park Community College (RPCC) reported seeing police cars and an ambulance at the site.

A statement on the college’s website said: “There was a serious incident on site earlier today (Friday). RPCC is working in close liaison with the police who are conducting further investigations.

“At all times the safety and wellbeing of students have been a priority and they have been visited by the senior leadership team during the course of the day to keep them informed and to check on their wellbeing.

A police spokesman added “A teenage girl sustained injuries to her neck during this incident and has been taken to hospital for treatment.”
