A 27-year-old man from Gosport has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a Southampton man was found dead in Riverside Park.

Detectives investigating incidents on River Walk, Southampton on September 5 and the death of 20-year-old Sol Hemy, have arrested a man who remains in police custody at this time.

The arrest comes after police received reports of gunshots being heard in River Walk just after 1am on Thursday, September 2.

Shortly after, they found a cannabis farm on River Walk containing more than 100 plants, and a vehicle left in Riverside Park was found to contain a large amount of cannabis.

Just after 6.30am, the body of Sol Hemy was found in the water at Riverside Park.

Police have reported that Sol was not shot, but his death remains unexplained.

Officers investigating his death and the incident that happened on River Walk a few hours earlier questioned the 27-year-old man yesterday as part of their enquiries.

Sol’s family has since released pictures of Sol to pay tribute to him.

A family spokesperson said: “We would like to thank everyone for their support and kindness, however, due to the exceptional circumstances we find ourselves in, we ask for privacy and time to grieve.”

Sol’s family have also said they support the police investigation and urge anyone with information about what happened to him to contact the police.
