A WINCHESTER-based charity will be taking to the waves later this year to celebrate its 35th birthday.

Brendoncare, which runs care homes in the area, will mark the occasions by hosting a party on board the boat Ocean Scene.

The charity began on February 14, 1984 when Sir Ronald Gibson and his family opened their home and created a nursing wing to provide a different kind of care for their relatives.

Since then, Brendoncare has developed to include ten care homes, four close-care sites, and over 90 community clubs in Hampshire and Dorset.

Emma Digance, head of fundraising, said: “We are so proud of how far the organisation has come in the last 35 years; however there is so much more to do for the older people in our local communities.

“This event is a chance for people to hear more about the work we are doing whilst having a brilliant evening with friends or colleagues, and supporting local older people.”

The Southampton Boat Party is taking place on Friday October 4 on board Blue Funnel’s Ocean Scene, and includes a three-course meal, entertainment and cruise of local waters featuring the beautiful scenery of the New Forest.

Tickets can be purchased by individuals, families, teams or groups, and there is a discount for a whole table.
