What a surprise. Southampton`s £450 million waterfront project has been scrapped, like so many other grandiose schemes over the years!
There is no dispute that the city would definitely benefit from an improved water frontage, but this type of development is apparently not viable unless the inevitable apartments, shops, restaurants, bars are included and we appear to have enough of those already as some have closed, unable to compete in a saturated market.
I have lived here all my life and I can get quite annoyed when I see the way it is being run.
Poor old Southampton really trails behind our neighbours Portsmouth, when it comes to planning and implementing public facilities, and our council could learn a great deal from their administration.
They just seem to have more of a "can do" attitude to things.
No doubt ABP also has a finger in the pie somewhere along the line as it manages the commercial docks and also has plans it would like to implement in the future.
So we have to be content with what we have at the moment....and wait and see what transpires, but don`t hold your breath, and while we are waiting, maybe Southampton could concentrate on have a spruce up remove rubbish and collective debris along with filling potholes, which is what council tax payers expect!
