There is a proposal to decrease the charges for some multi-storey car parks in Southampton as they are underutilised.
We strongly believe that the proposed reduction in parking fees goes completely against the Green Charter and climate emergency.
Instead of reducing parking fees we suggest that buses should be made cheaper and/or free for up to age 25, and on-street parking should be removed from London Road and other similar places so that these cars use the car parks.
The freed-up space can then make it much safer for people on bikes.
Maybe cycle lanes can be added, maybe trees can be added for better air quality, maybe benches can be added for better spaces, maybe electric chargers added.
