THE police gave chase - but not to criminals - to youngsters from Woolston Secondary School.
The county's Chief Constable blew the whistle on a charity football match between the two teams as they raised cash for the geriatric ward of Southampton General Hospital.
Hampshire's head policeman, John Hoddinott, kicked off the game for Bitterne Police Station.
The match was headed by PC David McIlwrick, who spent much of his time working at the school, and PE teacher Brenda Gould.
"Everyone was sponsored – even the cheerleaders," Brenda told the Echo at the time.
