A WOMAN in her 80s has been airlifted to hospital after she was seriously hurt in a crash in Milford-on-Sea this morning.

The incident, involving a car and a pedestrian, took place shortly before 10am in High Street.

The road was shut from the village green to the Smugglers Inn.

The woman has been taken to Southampton General Hospital by air ambulance.

A spokesperson from Hampshire police said: "We were called at 9.52am with reports of a collision.

"A Mercedes and a pedestrian are involved.

"The pedestrian, a woman aged in her 80s, has sustained serious injuries."

Police urged motorists to use the B3058 or Lymore Lane to get to the east side of the village.

A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 9.50am to reports of a female in her 80s who had been hit by a car.

“We had an ambulance crew, a rapid response vehicle and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance on scene assessing and treating the patient.

“Following treatment by all our crews at the scene she was taken to University Hospital Southampton by air.”

The road reopened at 2.18pm.
