HUNDREDS of people of all ages are set to attend a dementia awareness festival in Romsey.

Demfest is set to take place at Sir Harold Hiller Gardens on July 7 from 11am until 4pm.

The festival, organised by Romsey Dementia Action Group is suitable for all the family and is being backed by Hampshire County Council.

Ex saints manager, Lawrie Mcmenemy and MP Caroline Nokes are also set to officially open the event at 11.15am.

Guests will be able to enjoy a number of activities and entertainment including hortic therapy, reminiscence, aromatherapy, cheerleading and much more.

As well as this there will be a number of information stands with representatives talking about the support and advice they can offer those living with a dementia or affected by it .

Representatives include Dementia Advice Service, Admiral Nurses, Southampton Hospital, Hampshire Library Service.

Councillor Liz Fairhurst, Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Health said: “The County Council is proudly supporting the Romsey Dementia Action Group again this year, by making the beautiful Sir Harold Hillier Gardens available for Hampshire’s fourth annual Demfest.

“We know that there are approximately 12,500 people diagnosed with dementia living in the county, but it need not stop someone from living a full and meaningful life.

“Demfest provides a great opportunity for anyone affected by dementia, whether they are living with the condition themselves or because they care for a loved one with dementia, to come along and learn about the many opportunities to participate in and find support within their local communities.”

Marianne Piggin, Test Valley Borough Council added: “The festival is all about providing information, inspiration and innovation.”
