SOUTHAMPTON shoppers will be able to bask in the sun while enjoying one of this summers’ most hotly anticipated sporting events.

Westquay Shopping Centre will be screening Wimbledon 2019 live on a big-screen television, situated on the Esplanade.

Back for the third year in a row, the event will run through the full two-week tournament from Monday, July 1 to Sunday.

Guests will be able to relax on the astroturf and enjoy a range of Wimbledon themed refreshments and activities.

Shoppers can watch all the action from the London tournament as it unfolds, whether it’s to watch seven-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams, or witness Novak Djokovic defend his singles title, whilst sitting back in a deckchair.

Several of Westquay’s restaurants, will have discounts on takeaway services. Plus, customers will be able to indulge on exclusive cocktails from the Wimbledon-themed bar as they kick back on bean bags and enjoy the game on the big screen.

Those wanting to get closer to the action can get in involved with a pop-up table tennis table.

General Manager at Westquay, Andy Collyer said:

“Wimbledon is back, and for the third year running, we will be able to share the experience with the city.

“Shoppers will be able to watch the event in style. Wimbledon is a hugely popular event and customers love being “able to watch matches during their lunch breaks after work and whilst they’re shopping.”

In addition to showcasing the tennis, many of the retailers have exclusive offers and will be offering a takeaway food service to the screen, so customers can enjoy uninterrupted viewing.

It is still unknown if Andy Murray will be playing in the mixed doubles this year.

Just weeks ago cricket fans turned up at the Esplanade for the ICC Cricket World Cup.

They had the opportunity to take part in cricket related games and activities and enjoy refreshments from a bar.
