HERE we go again with our council that does practically nothing to mark the huge part that Southampton played in the D-Day plans.

In May 2004 my 89-year-old father made a two hour one man protest outside the Civic Centre.

He had written two letters to the council about the lack of plans to mark the 60th anniversary of D-Day.

But as he did not receive a reply he decided to take action.

My father landed on Sword Beach on June 6, 1944 driving his lorry load of shells.

He was Southampton's oldest surviving D-Day veteran when he died in 2014 aged 99.

He read the exhortation at the cenotaph on Remembrance Day for many years, and always emphasised, we WILL remember them.

Unfortunately it appears our council do not.
