SOUTHAMPTON cricket fans are invited to the city's fanzone for ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Westquay shopping centre are to host Southampton Fanzone for ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup from June 14 to 16 on the Esplanade.

The Fanzone is free to enter and will feature a big screen where you can follow the live action from comfy seating in front of Southampton’s iconic medieval walls.

There will be a street cricket zone, cricket related games and activities, and a refreshments bar selling soft-drinks and alcohol.

Cabinet Member for Homes and Culture Satvir Kaur said: "It is amazing that Southampton has been designated a host city for the Cricket World Cup, which swings into action next week.

"We are expecting visitors from around the world and have been working closely with our partners from across the region as well as tournament organisers to ensure that fans and teams alike receive a very warm welcome in our city during the five matches of the tournament that will be played at Hampshire Bowl.

"I'm particularly excited about the Fan Zone which will give local fans who have been unable to get hold of a ticket an opportunity to watch matches for free on a giant screen on Westquay Esplanade.

"The Fan Zone will be open from 14 until 16 June and will show some of the most eagerly awaited matches, including England v West Indies and India v Pakistan.

"I personally can not wait as the atmosphere will be electric!"

GO! Southampton in collaboration with Visit Hampshire have created a video of Southampton and the surrounding areas which will be shown to those watching the live matches at the Ageas Bowl.

GO! Southampton’s marketing and events director, Heidi Isa, said: “We’re delighted that Westquay is hosting the Southampton Fanzone for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

"It’s a fantastic opportunity to bring footfall to the city centre and encourage fans to explore local businesses.

“Those lucky people who managed to get tickets to watch matches live at the Ageas Bowl will also get a chance to see Southampton City Centre thanks to GO! Southampton’s collaboration with Visit Hampshire.

"Together we have created a video of Southampton and the surrounding areas, which will be shown all around the world when games are played at the Ageas Bowl.

"We’re immensely proud of our city and can’t wait to show people what a brilliant place it is to live, work and do business.”
