MORE than a thousand local schoolchildren laced-up for the Salisbury Schools Mini Marathon.

Taking place on Laverstock Schools' Campus on Saturday, the races kicked off at 9.15am with parents and adults battling it out in the annual fun run (2,300m).

It was then the turn of the children come 9.45am, with the under-9 girls racing against each other over 1,900m.

The under-9 boys (1,900m) were next, followed by the under-11 girls and finally the under-11 boys (both 2,300m).

Richard Davidson from Old Sarum came first in the men's race, followed by Andrew Ingleton (Wilton and Barford), with Andrew Holme(St Mark's) in third place.

In the women's race, Becs Brady (St Peter's) took home the winners medal, followed by Jo Halsey (St Mark's) in second, and Catherine Morgan-Smith (Pembroke Park) in third place. 

In the under-9 girls race, Eva Layton (Downton) came first , followed by Maggie Jobbings (Harnham), and Megena Lovatt-Williams (Broadchalke) in third place.

For the under-9 boys race, Art Mitchell (Winterbourne Earls) came in first, Ned Cordle (Broadchalke) second, and Harry Lewis (Winterslow) third. 

In the under-11 girls race, Sophie Hayakawa (Winterbourne Earls) won, Phoebe Fitzgerald (Harnham) second, and Catherine Payne (New Forest) third. 

Under-11 boys was won by Isaac Routledge (Winterbourne Earls), Nathaniel Owen (Alderbury) in second, and Jacob Redding (Harnham) in third.
