A CLIMBER had to be rescued from the bottom of a cliff in Swanage on Sunday night (May 12).

Swanage Coastguard was called to Boulder Ruckle at 9.15pm.

The climber’s buddy was at the top of the cliff and had attempted to recover his friend, who was uninjured, but was unable to make his way out.

A spokesperson for Swanage Coastguard said the climber’s friend had used the phone at Anvil Point Lighthouse to contact the Coastguard for help.

Swanage Coastguard and the team from St Albans attended and a cliff technician was deployed over the edge, but the climber and cliffs could not be seen clearly as darkness had set in.

Swanage Lifeboat was requested to launch to provide light and advice from below before the climbers were reunited.

The Coastguard team returned to the station just before midnight.
