A SOUTHAMPTON escape room has been voted the best in the world.

Houdini’s Escape Rooms Experience of Onslow Road and Tenpin Southampton has been rated number one in the Escape Room World Championships.

The firm won the title after it was voted best by a group of escape room experts who sampled other rooms across the world.

Houdini’s recently signed a deal with Tenpin to create new escape rooms in locations across the country.

Houdini’s newest escape room, to open at Tenpin Southampton, Extinct, tasks teams with searching for a missing crew in a mining facility on an uninhabited island.

Players may stumble across evidence of prehistoric wildlife as they try to solve the mystery before the time runs out.

Fans can also choose between two of Houdini’s other missions including Escape from Alcatraz and Escape from Titanic.

The company was founded by Jonathan Moore in 2016 with his wife and they have welcomed more than 30,000 thousand players.

Escape rooms are part of a rapidly growing entertainment industry where teams attempt to escape a variety of adventures within 60-90 minutes by searching for clues, solving puzzles and completing challenges.

Inspired by TV programmes such as The Adventure Game and The Crystal Maze, the idea is for teams to complete challenges and tasks in order to get out of the room they are locked in.
