Clean Air Southampton and Southampton Friends of the Earth have asked Southampton City Council to look into having car-free days in the city. We asked readers if they agree with the idea.

  • Natalie Smyth, a 36-year-old stay at home mum from Hamble, said: "Sure, as long as Southampton is still accessible as you do not want to deter people coming to the city, but I would love to support having less pollution."
  • Pierre Monnier, a 46-year-old office worker from Bitterne, said: "Yes, because I do not have a car and I do not like cars. I travel by bus and train a lot and I think too many people have cars."
  • Andrew Hamilton, a 70-year-old retired doctor from Dibden Purlieu, said: "No, because we should want to sort out the cruise ships first who pollute a huge amount all day and all night. I think they need an electric infrastructure, but we do not have that in Southampton."
  • Liz Johnston, a 54-year-old shop assistant from Chandler's Ford, said: "No, I probably would not travel as much and I think there are more places in the world that could reduce their pollution.
