EASTER Saturday will see the launch of the first of the Alresford Heritage days in which three historic attractions in the town will be open to the public from 11.00 – 4.00.

The Old Fire Station at the bottom of Broad Street now houses the Town’s Museum and is home to the old Steamer Fire Engine and other historic artefacts. It also tells the Story of Alresford through the ages. It will be formally opened by Mr. Steve Brine, MP, at 11am on Easter Saturday.

Mr Brine will also visit the two other attractions, the Norman Bridge and the 19th century Eel House straddling the River Alre. The bridge is one of Alresford’s hidden secrets and whilst it is immediately outside the new Museum it is hidden below the road. Access to the bridge is from Mill Hill.

‘Following a recent agreement with Artworthy Framing, the existing tenant at the Old Fire Station, who will continue to trade there, the Museum will be doubled in size next year.’ said Roy Gentry, Town Trustee and Chair of the Museum Committee.

An added attraction will be a French Market at the top of Broad Street.

All three attractions will be open for a further five days during the course of the year but it is hoped that the Museum will be open more frequently during the year but this is subject to the availability of volunteers.
