POLICE are still searching for the gun used to shoot a teenager in Southampton.

The firearm used to shoot a 17-year-old boy in the legs on Bluebell Road, Swaythling, has still not been found.

The boy remains in hospital receiving treatment for wounds to his legs and ankles.

Two people have since been arrested in connection with the incident but both have been released and remain under investigation.

A 61-year-old man was arrested on February 20 on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and concerned in the supply of class B drugs.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm without a certificate and possession with intent to supply cannabis. He was released but remains under investigation.

It comes after emergency services were called to the Swaythling street on February 18.

Police say the 17-year-old boy was shot in the legs and ankles and it is believed the weapon used was a shotgun.

Officers cordoned off a section of the street while they carried out forensic enquiries and door-to-door enquiries. They also carried out extra patrols in the area.

Detective Inspector Adam Edwards said: “While we are still in the early stages of this investigation, we would like to reassure the local community that we believe this was an isolated incident with no wider risk to the community.”
