THE Daily Echo takes a trip back in time to when revellers in Southampton took their own trip through time.

The date was April 28, 1999, when Diva became flooded with disco dancers donning large afro wigs, shiny medallions, tight catsuits and flapping flares.

While thousands of teens were hot footing it to Ibiza for house hedonism, the cool cats in these pictures strutted their funky stuff at a 70s night held at Diva nightclub.

It may have been a Thursday night, but that didn’t stop people from attending – the queues stretched the length of LeisureWorld.

Disco Dick on the decks was the icon of the moment – the platform king of Boogie Wonderland.

His intro was as over-the-top as the collars on his leopard-print catsuit.

The crowds from the balconies screamed his name as the dancefloor erupted.

“I may have missed the seventies the first time round, but I’ve managed to catch up and to be honest I reckon it’s still got that same buzz,” said Dick.

“It’s all about fun and having a good time. I’m not fanatical, I’m just here to spin the funky tunes.”
