A SOUTHAMPTON man has been arrested in connection with an attack which left the victim unconscious.

Police have reported that a 34-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in custody at this time.

Another man, aged 28, who was arrested for attempt to cause grievous bodily harm was released on police bail until May 8 in connection with the same incident.

During the attack which took place on Wednesday evening in Bullar Street, St Mary’s a man was beaten repeatedly with a stick.

He was taken to Southampton General Hospital.

Although his injuries were not life threatening, the victim was at one point unconscious, said a witness who took the injured man into his home and staunched the blood flowing from the man’s head wound with towels.

The witness also said he saw the two assailants escape in a white Mercedes.

Police confirmed that the victim, a 45-year-old man from Southampton, suffered injuries to his head, legs and back.
