A SOUTHAMPTON Sainsbury's car park was gridlocked.
Southampton Itchen MP Royston Smith took to social media express his frustration, and to advise people to avoid if possible yesterday.
Bitterne Sainsbury’s is gridlocked. No idea what @scchighways @SouthamptonCC are up to but I would avoid it if possible. @dailyecho pic.twitter.com/TNwWmj4PMS

Bitterne Park ward councillor David Fuller claimed it took him half-an-hour to leave the site, labelling it "ridiculous".
Just taken me half an hour to leave the carpark. Ridiculous.

Sainsbury's confirmed there are roadworks being carried out next to the car park, and have referred the Daily Echo to the city council.
Southampton City Council said: "Current highway improvement works do mean there are presently lane width restrictions at this location.
"We are afraid when the area is very busy which it currently will be because of Easter Holidays, there are likely to be some delays. We apologise for any inconvenience."
