RESIDENTS were evacuated from their homes after a car smashed into their building.
The car crashed into the building on St Andrew's Road in St Mary's last night and flipped on to its roof.
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We received the call at 11.02pm.
"One crew from St Mary's attended the scene.
"One car was involved and crashed into a building.
"No persons were trapped in the car.
"The building was evacuated for structural engineer to assess.
"We left the scene at 12.57pm."
One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "It missed our house by a matter of inches, and we heard it hit the kerb, followed by a massive bang.
"It went into about four houses.
"I have a baby and if I were taking a nappy out it would have killed me.
"People were trapped in their houses because it took out steps to the first floor."
