STUDENTS of Solent University have teamed up with Showcase Cinemas to create a new trailer which will be shown in its screens worldwide.

The advert has been shot at the company’s Showcase Cinema de Lux site at Westquay South, and showcases the brand’s XPlus experience.

XPlus is the cinema’s top viewing experience, which offers a 360-degree surround sound and a wall-to-wall screen with ultra-high definition projection.

Mark Barlow, UK general manager for Showcase Cinemas, said: “We’re hugely excited to partner with Solent University to create our new XPlus trailer, which will be shown in our cinemas not only in the UK, but also in the US and Brazil.

“The project has been in the pipeline for some time, with Solent students getting involved at every stage of the journey.

“Working with the local communities is extremely important to us and we’re really pleased with the work the team has done so far, and know that filmgoers around the world will be impressed when they see the trailer with their own eyes.”

The project has seen students from Solent University wok alongside Solent Alumni and industry veterans to create the trailer, and is one of the largest productions undertaken by the university.

The 27 students working on the project are all aged between 19 and 23, and are studying courses in television, film and media at the university.

They are currently working on post-production, with the trailer due to be aired on over 500 screens this spring.

Tony Steyger, head of Solent Productions, said: “Helping students on real world projects like this is what Solent University does well.

“It’s a wonderful learning challenge for students whilst they study, setting them up for working in the industry and future career success.”
